As a big thank you and a celebration of Volume 2 coming soon I am happy to bring you my out of print sketchbook of observational studies and character designs from 2010. This is 100 pages full of designs and studies from people around the world. I use 3 different methods when observing and studying. 1. Look, draw, look, draw. The act of looking quickly then looking down back and forth until I find what I want to say about the subject. Direct observation. 2. Looooooook Draw. This is when someone has caught my eye and I have but 30 seconds to remember as much as I can about them and then draw them. Prioritizing Design and observations. 3. Look and wait. This method is for when it’s the perfect time to snipe. Pick your subject and remember everything you can like the attitude, clothing, texture, style, face. Then just go about your day. When you get home, think back and draw all that you can retain from earlier that day. Long term memory observation. That’s it. Pay whatever you feel like. All I ask is you tweet, facebook, email, or yell this out to the world and the internet. Thanks again for joining me here and on the web! thanks to you! Have at it, get out there and draw!!! Cheers, Bean

Brett “2D” Bean
Character Designer and Visual Development Artist

After asking to be a drummer to his mother at an early age, Brett Bean was handed a piece of paper and a pencil because it was, “much more quiet.” Unbeknownst to his mother and her simple gesture of headache reduction methodology, she spurred on a career of a full-fledged character design and visual development artist.

Since those fateful years, Brett has contributed to Film, TV, games both digital and analog, pitches, manuals, and books. His Client list Includes Disney TV, Nickelodeon, Nerd Corps., Wizards of the Coast, Bento Box, Shadow Machine, The Hub, Space time Studios, Leap Frog, Rumble Inc., Kellog’s, Gazillion Entertainment., Big Idea Entertainment, Imagine FX and More.
When not working for clients he is busy on his first graphic novel called Space Out! and fine tuning his own pitches for the screen.
With a passion for travel, caffeine, volleyball, Tom Waits, and speaking in the a 3rd person vernacular, Brett currently free-lances, teaches, and lives with his wife Julie, a brilliant jewelry designer, in Pasadena, CA.

That moment when you get to someone's dA profile via Oatley's artcasts, and you think: "Well, I'll have to watch that guy.", just to realise you were already watching him.

And don't have the slightest idea when and how that happened.

Man, the world's a village these days, fo' sure.
